Step 1. Click the "Messages" icon on your Facebook homepage. The Messages icon lies in the top left edge and resembles 2 little overlapping speech bubbles.

Step 2. Click the conversation including the message or messages you intend to remove. If it is not provided on the preliminary Messages pop-up window, click "See All" to check out all of your personal messages. Click the discussion on that particular listing having the message you want to erase.

Step 3. Click the "Actions" button and after that click "Delete Messages" on the Activities drop-down menu.

Step 4. Click the check boxes located beside the messages you intend to erase.

Click "Delete" and then click "Delete Messages" to confirm that you want to remove the chosen messages.

To delete a whole discussion instead of specific messages, click "Delete Conversation" after clicking the Actions menu in the 3rd step.

Caution
Removing a private message in your Messages inbox does not delete it from the inbox of your discussion companion.
